Artist Sze JOnes BIography
My name is Sze Jones. I am a Chinese American artist currently residing in Las Vegas. My art journey started when my Mom taught me how to write with a bamboo brush. As a young girl, I stayed in the children's hospital for the majority of the school years. Art became my best way to express my thoughts, love, and feelings.
My Mom enrolled me in art, music, and dance activities as she noticed I was happiest when making art and doing creative projects. I was accepted into a specialized art school in Hong Kong focused on visual arts, music, and further developing academic and artistic skills.
At the age of 16, I transferred abroad to Canada to study Biology, Music, Graphic Design, and Visual Communication. My dream was to become a veterinarian, but I realized it was unattainable financially. I continue to play the violin and piano at school, but art has always been the closest to my heart.
When I was in college pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, I took an elective class in Computer Graphics and found a path to combine my passion for art, dance, and music through animation, film, and cinematics.
I studied and trained in Computer Graphics with Silicon Graphics with Maya and 3D Studio Max specialized in Character Modeling. I was drawn to creating characters for cinematics to express my emotions through art, music and animation.
After graduation, I continued to expand my art trainings by taking advanced disciplinary workshops, including the Academic Atelier Oil Painting, Comic Inking, Artisan Jewelry, Figurative Sculpting, Life Drawing, and Chinese Calligraphy Painting.
For my art career, I worked as a Principal Character Artist in the game industry in creating iconic game characters for cinematics for 25 years. It was an extraordinary experience to share my inner strength and emotion with gamers all over the world.
In 2023, I took the Leap of Faith to pursue art as a full-time career to create my personal art with personal meaning. My intention is to share beauty, strength, and peace with others. I have met many new friends, inspirational entrepreneurs, and bonded with the community through the years.
In my personal artwork, I enjoy blending traditional fine art and digital techniques to create meaningful and inspirational pieces. My background as a dancer and musician has inspired me to combine my art with movements, gestures, and emotional expressions, resulting in narrative storytelling that expresses my life experiences, inner energy, and spiritual peace.
My process starts with sketching the visions that come to mind in pencil, then I refine the design with water-soluble graphite. Once I am happy with the design, I then outline the design with waterproof sumi ink. After the linework is completed, I then apply layers of thin watercolor with gradients, and the final layers of highlights are added with gouache.
In jewelry making, I experiment with traditional metalsmithing and digital 3D sculpting techniques. I'm passionate about creating imaginative designs and color with enamel, paired with natural gemstones and precious metals. It brings me great joy to share these unique pieces with collectors as timeless wearable art.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my life journey! I am grateful for your support and love for my art.
